Municipality of Greenstone

Discover one of Ontario’s best kept secrets.

Discover Greenstone, Spirit of the North,  a land of pristine lakes, rushing rivers and the beautiful boreal forest.  Greenstone is an outdoor lover’s delight with scenic parks, a first class 18-hole golf course, miles of hiking trails, canoe routes and snowmobile trails.  The region abounds with moose, caribou, bear, and bald eagles so don’t forget to bring your camera.

Discover Greenstone – any time of the year!

Whether your interests lie in fishing, canoeing, photography, hiking, golfing, snowmobiling, birding, cross country skiing, exploring the past or just plain relaxing, Greenstone has something for everyone.

Greenstone boasts a rich and colourful history.  Once a flourishing gold mining region, the area grew and thrived on forestry.  Although most of the mining activity ended in the 70s and the forestry industry is now in decline, Greenstone is experiencing a resurgence of mineral exploration for gold and base metals deposits and the future looks bright.

Located along TransCanada Highway 11 in the heart of Northern Ontario, Greenstone is a newly amalgamated municipality made up of the former municipalities of the Township of Beardmore, the Town of Geraldton, the Township of Nakina and the Town of Longlac, and the smaller communities of Orient Bay, MacDiarmid, Jellicoe and Caramat.  Each is unique and each has a different story to tell.

Greenstone is host to a number of festivals and events all year round, and is a well-established tourist destination attracting people from all over to enjoy the remarkable scenery and relaxed lifestyle.
