Learning Centres

Have you ever dreamed about learning how to master the high seas or saying "mush" to a lively team of sled dogs?  Wished you had the time to brush up your photography or arts skills? Wanted to learn more about the ecology -- or about yourself?  In North of Superior Country, the opportunities for learning are many and varied.  For the water and adventure buffs out there,  there are sea kayaking, canoeing and sailing lessons and if you just want to stand in the water and catch fish, you can get instruction in fly fishing.  There are also numerous ecological education programs, arts classes and healthy lifestyle instruction. Vacation time is a wonderful time to learn something new so come to North of Superior and get learning!

Amethyst Mine Panorama
Amethyst Mine PanoramaAmethyst Mine Panorama is the largest deposit in North America. It was discovered in 1955 as a result of a road being built to the forest fire lookout tower (McTavish Tower) visible from the mine sight. Amethyst production started in 1960 and the mine has produced continuously since then.

The mine produces 40% usable amethyst by volume. A large digging area, open to the public, contains 20% usable amethyst and is the main source of “pick your own” amethysts. Open from May to October.
